(Un)Happy Wednesday

Posted on December 18, 2014

Happy WednesdayWednesdays are usually quiet when compared to the more shitshow prone days like Saturdays and Sundays. The average Wednesday this year has averaged less than two homicides and another 6 people shot. Layer on top the month of December, which is hardly known for its July-like stupidity, and yesterday was a multiple stupidity sigma event.

By the stoke of midnight, a total of 17 people found themselves with at least one additional hole amongst their person – record for Wednesday for 2014. Four of the 16 were killed:

One can skew the homicide numbers anyway they want. But I imagine it would be harder to explain away a new hole in your body. Two thousand five hundred people with new holes!! And two weeks to go. I’m amazed that benchmark is not even a blip on the TV screen.
Everyone of those holes accounts for a response from first responders, a risk to their own safety, outstanding medical intervention, and ultimately a hospital bill that I have to help pay. Thanks a lot Chicago! And God bless those that are helping those with the new piercings.

all the lawyers, judges and doctors agree, ka-ching!

    • Wolf December 18, 2014 at 5:25 pm

Yep, God bless those that are helping those with the new piercings.

Perhaps the City and the shooters could put up signs ” Bodies pierced while you wait, .22 to .45, no problem. Open seven days a week including weekends”.

I believe that the shootings are such a money maker for the criminal justice system, the hospitals, undertakers and others that no one is any hurry to end the gravy train.

Amazing! And still not a word from any of the “beautiful people” like Al, Jesse, and the 3 stooges. At this rate, the honor students and future members of the chamber of commerce will eclipse last years numbers with little difficulty. Overachievers, the whole lot.

Chicago’s a zoo. Escape while you still can. No end in sight and those that remain have a permanent seat on the pain train.

    Happy holidays.

So much for the Christmas spirit.

1999 Trib article on treating the cost of gunshot wounds says over $35k.

    2143 x 35,000 = $75million

    • W.H.Thompson December 19, 2014 at 9:01 am

Thanks for the link. The cost nowadays is much higher due to not only general inflation but massive inflation in health care costs.

      • Dan December 19, 2014 at 7:13 pm

Yeah, the honor students have really stepped up their efforts lately. Almost as though they are trying to reach some kind of milestone. It really is very sad that this allowed to happen. I default to freedom and individual rights and what-not but it pains me that there isn’t some way (stop and frisk perhaps) to prevent some of this mayhem. My personal wish is truly for a safe and happy holidays for us all. There’s my holiday message to you all. Merry Christmas folks.

Ho, Ho, Ho. Looking at a final death toll of 450 for the year? Where is the Polar Vortex when we need it?

    • Nick December 19, 2014 at 9:09 am

I’ll see your 450 and raise you 3.

Schools out this afternoon, followed by two rather long holiday weekends. And for a limited time only, the weather just looks like it will support extra-curricular activity. Mix it all together in a festive egg nog and you have the ingredients for some real stupidity mixed with a healthy seving of hopelessness.

“We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a. Happy New Year”

      Keep the faith Folks.

The city could raise money by providing bleachers surrounded by bullet proof glass in the areas with the most shootings on weekend nights. Sell tickets along with the food and drinks it would be a winner. Also maybe having a betting window would definitely raise money. If business slows down make sure enough guns and ammo are made available to boost the action. It appears that it cannot be stopped so you may as well make the best of the situation. Isn’t it Rahm who made the famous statement, “Don’t let a crisis go to waste”.
