this weekend so far, there were 2 hat tricks (n francisco and w madison). most every week, 2 or more people are shot at same time same place. studies by fbi, motherjones, harvard, northwestern don’t account for doubles, hat tricks, grandslams, etc… their start point requires minimum of 4 fatalities, otherwise the shooting incident is not accounted for in their stats. which leads me to this question mr t – have you compiled from your data a list of “mini” mass shootings in chicago which shows the number of doubles, triples, quads, etc… it would be interesting to see.

mass shootings stats by fbi – http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2014/september/fbi-releases-study-on-active-shooter-incidents/fbi-releases-study-on-active-shooter-incidents

By any measure Rahm & The Aldermen can state that under their leadership, less than 10,000 people were shot in Chicago – far less – in 2014. And that folks is pure success.

I believe part of the equation for the weather factor is the students have to keep moving around to stay warm, and maybe the colder steel on the weapon affect their accuracy.
    Still putting up impressive numbers.

Just read a article at lunch in the Trib about how shootings are becoming a common occurrence in the Cragin neighborhood revolving around the murder last night on Lockwood and Oakdale. I’ve been living in Belmont Cragin for 7 years, first near Grand and Lockwood, and now near Diversey and Laramie. While shootings of course aren’t as common as other places in the city, they are and never were rare from my experience.

One shooting that I will forever remember is a shooting of two young teen boys (maybe around 14 & 13 years of age I believe) in 2010 on Lockwood and Belden after the first day of school. I’ll always remember it because a guy I was classmates with from 5th grade up until that year of Highschool was convicted in that shooting. It turns out it was retaliation for a boy – a northwest middle school student – being shot that summer a few blocks away.

I think the first mistake in combatting “increasing” violence here if people are now worried, is believing that this gang violence is something new. I was 13 when we moved here from North Lawndale and The community can be tricky: it’s quiet, some blocks almost look like the suburbs even. But with out a warning, a whole gang of who ever will descend on that block quickly in some places. Which shouldn’t have been ignored for this long. The huge after school fights of Foreman HS kids were not just students passing along, the gangs have been here.
