October Wrap-up
Posted on November 1, 2017
Our October forecast fell a bit short but a handful of reclassifications from the summer pushed the month-end homicide tally to just one shy of our month-start prediction, 590 vs 591. Staying on time and on target, it took less than 12 hours for November to reach 591.
October 2017: 55 killed, 228 wounded
October 2016: 82 killed, 348 wounded
October 2015: 31 killed, 203 wounded
October 2014: 39 killed, 215 wounded
A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:
- All 50 shot & killed
- 0 police shootings
- 1 self defense homicide
- 5 homicide-linked arrests
- Averaged 9 people shot per day
- 4 days were homicide-free
- 7 death investigations
- 39 in serious or critical condition
- 49 males killed vs 6 females
- 59 teenagers shot, 10 killed
- 10 grazed
- 8 selfies
- 16 #ShotInTheAss
By last November, there was no stopping the stupidity as it posted a multi-decade high of 83 homicides with an additional 323 wounded. Like we predicted for October, the same amount of hi-speed lead making contact is unlikely but another 55 homicides plus another 225 wounded is probable. Our year end homicide forecast is now looking like it’ll be somewhere in the gentrification-free neighborhood of 690-710.
