July Wrap-up

Posted on July 31, 2019

Carnac the MagnificentBy July standards, this July posted below average numbers in the deceased column which will result in slightly less “unacceptable” and more “much more work remains to be done” proclamations.

July 2019: 45 killed, 288 wounded
July 2018: 67 killed, 265 wounded
July 2017: 82 killed, 354 wounded
July 2016: 74 killed, 381 wounded
July 2015: 58 killed, 271 wounded
July 2014: 47 killed, 277 wounded
July 2013: 56 killed, 209 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

  • 40 shot & killed
  • 1 fatal police-involved shooting
  • 1 fatal friendly fire incident
  • 5 homicide-linked arrests
  • Averaged over 10 people shot per day
  • 8 days were homicide-free
  • Weekends tallied 2/3rds of homicides
  • 7 death investigations
  • 51 in serious or critical condition
  • 38 males killed vs 7 females
  • 45 teenagers shot, 4 fatally
  • Youngest victim, 1, oldest, 57
  • 39 of 45 (86.6%) victims are black
  • 18 grazed
  • 10 selfies
  • 17 #ShotInTheAss

We didn’t post a forecast for July given the early onset of the annual July 4th Shitshow of the Year, but we were looking for around 60 homicides (whiffed). Looking ahead, August has consistently put up 55 or 56 homicides for 4 of the last 6 years. We’re not going to bet against the house, even at a poorly located casino, so we’ll go with 55 homicides and an additional 275 shot and wounded. This puts us right around last year’s 56/304 deadly duo.
