July Wrap-up

Posted on August 1, 2018

Carnac the Magnificent After a rather quiet July 4th extended Shoot-O-Rahm-A weekend, the rest of month returned to its midseason form to finish with an average July.

July 2018: 66 killed, 266 wounded
July 2017: 82 killed, 354 wounded
July 2016: 74 killed, 381 wounded
July 2015: 58 killed, 271 wounded
July 2014: 47 killed, 277 wounded
July 2013: 56 killed, 209 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

  • 60 shot & killed
  • 6 death by other means
  • 2 fatal police shootings
  • 1 homicide-linked arrest
  • Averaged 10.5 people shot per day
  • 3 days were homicide-free
  • 4 death investigations
  • 54 in serious or critical condition
  • 56 males killed vs 8 females
  • 62 teenagers shot, 5 killed
  • 17 grazed
  • 2 selfies
  • 13 #ShotInTheAss

While we didn’t post an official July forecast due to a Weekend Shoot-O-Rahm-A and the extended July 4th Shitshow, we did estimate the month ending at 330 homicides on our Homicide Trend. Bullseye! Looking ahead, August is usually the peak month of the Summer Shooting Season, however last year saw a substantial pullback from what was a record pace. We doubt we’ll see the same percentage drop this year and instead we’ll continue to grind along recording the same nonsense every day. We’re forecasting 65 homicides with an additional 300 shot and wounded which would put us slightly above last year’s tally (55/289) but well below 2016’s epic disaster (98/398).
