Honor Student of the Week
Posted on June 4, 2014
This week’s honor student is a convicted felon who enjoys doing time, taking potshots at police officers and receiving incoming fire from the same officers. Please meet Gerald S. Preacely Jr.:
“Officers patrolling in a squad car in the 6400 block of South King Drive about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday saw Preacely cross the street in front of their car, firing a handgun at a group of people in the Parkway Gardens housing complex, according to prosecutors.
The squad car pulled over and an officer in the passenger seat got out of the car and announced himself. Preacely turned in the direction of the officers and fired two to three shots, prosecutors said.
One of the officers returned fire, shooting three times at Preacely, prosecutors said. Preacely ran through a courtyard of the housing complex, tossing a 9 mm loaded handgun into a Dumpster.”
Fortunately for the officers involved, Gerry’s time in the pen prevented him for attending his weekly firearm safety and training session even though he has some experience in this area:
“Preacely… was previously convicted of unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor street gang contact while on parole…”
Maybe the attempted murder of a police officer charge will put Gerry away for more than a couple years, maybe.
