Blue Line Blues
Posted on October 9, 2014
The poor CTA Blue Line, besides being known for questionable service and hi-speed escalator runs, some this jagoff decided to take a few shots at it this morning.
“A man in his 20s with a long arrest record fired an assault rifle five times at a Blue Line train at the LaSalle station Thursday morning but did not hit anyone, police said.
The man was arrested within minutes as he was walking with the rifle about a block from the station, police said. He was carrying 60 extra bullets, police said.
The gunman was seen on CTA surveillance video boarding a train at LaSalle Street, traveling in a loop and then getting off back at LaSalle, according to McCarthy. On the platform, the gunman opened fire on a train five times, he said.
McCarthy said the gunman has a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, but the rifle was reported stolen from Indiana. The fact that the gunman fired on the train and not any people, McCarthy said, was “a bit perplexing.””
What’s even more perplexing, G-Mac, is:
- how someone rides a CTA train with a rifle without being noticed?
- how does someone with a “long arrest record” get a FOID card?
- how can someone get an “assault rifle” into Chicago – those are like really, really, super illegal and stuff (and scary!).
UPDATE: Our hero used a Hi-Point Carbine, hardly an assault rifle, and is being held on $2 million dollars bond, which is $1MM more than the typical murder suspect.
