Given the end Summer Shooting Season will be upon us this coming Labor Day weekend, we figured we’d post our August Wrap-up prior to the final Shoot-O-Rahm-a and tweak it as needed. As for August, it was a carbon copy of last August with a jackrabbit first half of the month (including a record setting 49 shot in one day on the 5th) followed by a much more mellow second half.
August 2018: 56 killed, 304 wounded
August 2017: 55 killed, 289 wounded
August 2016: 98 killed, 398 wounded
August 2015: 56 killed, 307 wounded
August 2014: 46 killed, 250 wounded
August 2013: 55 killed, 222 wounded
A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:
- 54 shot & killed
- 0 police shootings
- 1 non-fatal self defense shooting
- 5 homicide-linked arrests
- Averaged nearly 12 people shot per day
- 7 days were homicide-free
- 7 death investigations
- 67 in serious or critical condition
- 44 males killed vs 12 females
- 82 teenagers shot, 12 fatally
- 21 grazed
- 4 selfies
- 10 #ShotInTheAss
Even though another Summer Shooting Season is nearly in the books, the post season will see more of the same. Last September posted 61 homicides with an additional 273 shot and wounded which was a quite the slow down when compared to the Jan-Aug timeframe. We see the trend of 2015 and now 2017 staying in place, therefore we’re looking for 55 homicides plus another 275 wounded*.
*MAJOR CAVEAT – if and when JVD is acquitted of first degree murder, all bets are off.
