April Wrap-up
Posted on April 30, 2019
We’re going to assume that with numbers like this, we won’t be hearing much about how homicides and shootings are down vs last year. What a mess.
April 2019: 61 killed, 189 wounded
April 2018: 42 killed, 181 wounded
April 2017: 49 killed, 270 wounded
April 2016: 40 killed, 274 wounded
April 2015: 37 killed, 204 wounded
April 2014: 37 killed, 232 wounded
A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:
- 60 shot & killed
- 2 fatal self defense shootings
- 2 homicide-linked arrests
- Averaged 8.3 people shot per day
- 2 days were homicide-free
- 3 death investigations
- 38 in serious or critical condition
- 49 males killed vs 12 females
- 53 teenagers shot, 14 fatally
- 9 grazed
- 5 selfies
- 17 #ShotInTheAss
Our April forecast of 40 homicides with another 175 shot and wounded was 50% short on the homicide side of the ledger. We certainly didn’t see a six handle. Anyway, Spring Training continues and will barrel into Memorial Day weekend which is always a guaranteed shitshow regardless of what the new mayor says or hopes the CPD does or doesn’t. No matter the wishful thinking, we’re forecasting a 60 homicide May with an additional 275 shot and wounded which would put slightly ahead of last year’s 54/265 box score and will further close the 2018 vs 2019 gap.
