April Wrap-up

Posted on May 1, 2018

Carnac the Magnificent A very chilly March gave way to the 4th coldest April on record. Surprisingly enough, this resulted in a bit less lead meeting flesh, but the homicide tally still managed to average out with the assistance of six fatal stabbings.

April 2018: 40 killed, 183 wounded
April 2017: 49 killed, 270 wounded
April 2016: 40 killed, 274 wounded
April 2015: 37 killed, 204 wounded
April 2014: 37 killed, 232 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

  • 33 shot & killed
  • 6 stabbed
  • 2 non-fatal police shootings
  • 4 homicide-linked arrests
  • Averaged 7.2 people shot per day
  • 6 days were homicide-free
  • 5 death investigations
  • 42 in serious or critical condition
  • 33 males killed vs 7 females
  • 41 teenagers shot, 4 killed
  • 9 grazed
  • 4 selfies
  • 10 #ShotInTheAss

While we have yet to see our first 70 degree infused weekend Shoot-O-Rahm-a disaster, our prediction of 40 homicides and 160 shot and wounded was perfect for one side and a bit short on the other. Looking ahead, past Mays have been complete and total shitshows that typically run 50+ homicides and 250+ shot and wounded helped along with the Memorial Day weekend which runs up the score. We’re forecasting a 55 homicide May with an additional 265 shot and wounded which would put us right around last year’s tally (59/269) but well below 2016 (69/339).
