$100,000,000 (Again)

It’s that time of year when the city comes out with its projected police overtime number. Like last year, the initial estimate was off by only a couple 10s of millions of dollars.
“[City Budget Director Alexandria] Holt told aldermen the city expects to spend $95 million on police overtime this year, which is $23 million more than the $72 million already set aside.
It’s the second year in a row the city has exceeded its police overtime budget by millions. Last year, the city spent more than $100 million on police overtime after estimating it would spend $32 million.
The figures come amid growing concern in Chicago over the police department’s overall effectiveness in addressing spiraling shootings and murders, particularly in a number of poorer and more disadvantaged neighborhoods across the city.”
$100 million gets you slightly fewer homicides (still on target for 400+ this year) and more people shot. Not a very good ROI for the tapped taxpayers of Chicagoland.
What’s not included here is the overall police, fire and EMS budget numbers plus the HUGE taxpayer-assisted medical expenses incurred by various honor students, jagoffs, assholes and pricks with severe coping issues.
The cops do what they can, when they can, but in the end the aforementioned honor students should be sent the bill for the asinine behavior.
