The McDonald’s Incident

CWBChicago got a hold of a cell phone video (vertical of course) from this past April that shows a scuffle between the security guard and two individuals with a surprise ending:

“The video, filmed from inside McDonald’s at 10 East Chicago, shows two males attacking a middle-aged man who appears to be a security guard. The man is slammed against the restaurant’s outside wall by the pair who punch and grapple the older man as he works to free himself.

Within moments, one of the two apparent attackers picks up an object that appears to be a pepper spray canister while the armed man continues to struggle with the other person.

Suddenly, the man with the canister runs away as the older man returns to camera view with a handgun pointed raised at shoulder height.”

Imagine the uproar if the trigger was pulled at any time during this kerfuffle. There will be a time at some point in the future when an unsuspecting individual going about his/her battering/assaulting/robbing catches a round or two from a CCW holder on or around the Magnificent Mile.

March Wrap-up

Carnac the Magnificent Headlines were a plenty in March with the mayoral election, the Jussie Hoax Circus and the annual Vomit-O’Rahma, yet at the same time, the month quietly tied or surpassed last year’s March.

March 2019: 35 killed, 136 wounded
March 2018: 31 killed, 143 wounded
March 2017: 40 killed, 175 wounded
March 2016: 50 killed, 281 wounded
March 2015: 35 killed, 179 wounded
March 2014: 27 killed, 104 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

Our March forecast of 35 homicides with another 150 shot and wounded was nearly dead on. April is usually when Spring Training finally gets underway and the hits start to pick up. We’re forecasting a 40 homicide April with an additional 175 shot and wounded which would put us in the same ballpark as last year’s 42/181 box score.

The Weekend’s Shoot-o-Rahm-a

Chicago Mayors: Thompson, Cermak, Daley, Washington, DaleyWith the mayoral runoff election on Tuesday, this very well may be the last in office, appropriately named “Shoot-o-Rahm-a”. We haven’t decided what to call these going forward, however keeping things as is until we come up with something better suited is the most likely outcome.

Final Shoot-o-Rahm-a Tally: 5 killed, 18 wounded

WTF Just Happened?

We assumed there would be some sort of judicial hijinks involved with the Smollett case given our pro-criminal State’s Attorney and all, but we didn’t foresee anything like what went down today. And judging by the various reactions, no one else did either.

“In a stunning reversal, Cook County prosecutors abruptly dropped all charges in an indictment accusing Smollett of staging the Jan. 29 attack in Streeterville and falsely claiming he was the victim of a hate crime.

In exchange, prosecutors said, Smollett agreed to forfeit the $10,000 he’d posted for his bond and perform community service. The purported deal appeared to be hastily arranged — Smollett only completed the community service Monday — and apparently was not put in writing.

While prosecutors claimed to have overwhelming evidence, the deal did not require Smollett to admit he did anything wrong. What’s more, Smollett’s lawyers have vehemently disputed there was an agreement at all, and now the entire court file has been sealed at the defense’s request.

The unanswered questions surrounding the development left many wondering what might have happened behind the scenes. It also appeared to have caught Chicago police brass by surprise and brought swift condemnation from Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who called it a “whitewash of justice.” “

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K. In any event, we’re still patiently waiting for the federal mail fraud and/or terrorism charges to come down.

Of course, CWBChicago has an exclusive: Chicago Police Department’s complete investigative file of Jussie Smollett case.

February Wrap-up

Carnac the Magnificent A reversion to the mean of sorts helped by some lousy weather and an outsized interest in a hoax will make this February, like most months, one to forget.

February 2019: 26 killed, 108 wounded
February 2018: 42 killed, 117 wounded
February 2017: 51 killed, 165 wounded
February 2016: 46 killed, 156 wounded
February 2015: 20 killed, 59 wounded
February 2014: 22 killed, 54 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

  • 22 shot & killed
  • 4 stabbed
  • 1 fatal police shooting
  • 1 non-fatal police shooting
  • 2 homicide-linked arrests
  • Averaged 4.6 people shot per day
  • 9 days were homicide-free
  • 2 death investigations
  • 14 in serious or critical condition
  • 25 males killed vs 1 female
  • 30 teenagers shot, 5 fatally
  • 13 grazed
  • 3 selfies
  • 2 #ShotInTheAss

February is usually the bottom of the trend and it’ll start climbing from here as the weather turns and practice begins ahead of the annual summer shooting season. We’re forecasting a 35 homicide March with an additional 150 shot and wounded which would be inline with last year’s 31/143 combination.

February bonus fact – 2/28/15, 4 years ago, was the last day Chicago saw a day without a shooting and/or a homicide.

Jus(sie) Getting Started

This guyWe’re having a hard time trying to recall a case that has spilled as much ink as this Smollett fraud. We haven’t said a word about it only saying to ourselves that this whole thing smelled funny within a few hours of it being first reported.

While we were expecting a misdemeanor charge from our pro-criminal State’s Attorney followed by the usual GoFundMe campaign to cover legal fees and various other injustices, capped off by a last minute write-in campaign for mayor, we’re of the opinion that it’s going to get worse of Mr. Gay Tupac. Specifically, his “failed to impress” letter threat will have the Feds dropping the hammer.

Wait for it.

Sorry Folks

Sorry folks, we're taking some time off.No Weekend-Shoot-O-Rahm-A this weekend, however we may have to do a Hoax-O-Rahm-A timeline to keep track of all the twists and turns of this Jussie Smollett hoax case. We’re shocked!, shocked!! that it appears as if the original story was a bit, say, ’embellished’.
CWBChicago has all the latest developments.

St. Valentine’s Day Massacre

Bodies From St. Valentine's Day Massacre90 years ago today, one of the most infamous incidents in Chicago history took place, the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. A total of seven people were gunned down in a garage at 2122 N. Clark Street in Lincoln Park.

As of today, this month has already tallied 14 homicides, which is double what the massacre tallied. Last year we saw the equivalent of 84 St. Valentine’s Day Massacres and the recent peak of 2016 scored 115 massacres.

Two other notable parallels to the present day are 1) no one was ever convicted for the crime and 2) the code of silence was alive and well back then too. Frank Gusenberg, who was the only one of the seven to survive the attack, told the cops “nobody shot me”. He died three hours later from 14 bullet wounds. Today he’d be labeled as being “uncooperative”.

The Windchill-o-Rahm-a

dibsGiven the record breaking chill falling upon us and the associated chatter about it, we thought it would be mildly interesting to fire-up a special mid-week, windchill edition of the usual Shoot-o-Rahm-a. Let’s see if weather really has nothing to do with it.

Happy Anniversary

Three StoogesIt’s hard to believe that it has now been six years since we flipped the switch on a questionably named site that decided to illustrate “Chicago values”. At the time, we went live with just a handful of charts, no shooting statistics (just homicides), no commentary and most importantly, no Shot-In-The-Ass-O-Meter.

In those six years, we’ve recorded nearly 3,500 homicides, over 17,000 shot and wounded and hundreds of “death investigations” which have resulted in over 300,000 stupidity-related data points.

Thanks to everyone who has visited, emailed, followed, linked, liked and/or donated over the past 2,191 days.
