Summer Lovin’
Posted on September 6, 2017
Thanks to a mean reverting August, the Summer Shooting Season failed to eclipse last year’s “That 90s Shitshow”. Our lofty prediction of 250 homicides and an additional 1,200 shot and wounded was slight more accurate than your average drive by, but still missed its target.
Summer ’17*: 236 killed, 1,069 wounded
Summer ’16: 275 killed, 1,284 wounded
Summer ’15: 212 dead, 999 wounded
Summer ’14: 169 dead, 847 wounded
A breakdown of the Season’s stupidity shows:
- 217 shot & killed
- 12 stabbed
- 6 killed via other means
- A person killed every 10 hours, 6 minutes
- A person shot every 1 hour, 53 minutes
- >90% of homicides were on South & West sides
- 9 ongoing “death investigations”
- 9 police-involved shootings, 4 fatal
- 173 in serious or critical condition
- 214 males killed vs 22 females
- 248 teenagers shot, 40 killed
- 67 grazed
- 6 selfies
- 67 #ShotInTheAss
The current trend puts 2017’s final numbers slightly north of 700 homicides and on the south side of 3,800 total people shot. Those numbers are just enough for “crime is down” New Years Eve press releases despite them still being 40-50% above the post Y2K trend.
