While the CPD is reminded that vehicles are not to be considered deadly weapons, unwilling-non-CPD-participants are not beholden to such rules while partaking in a round of Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.
“Authorities have identified a 17-year-old boy fatally shot by an off-duty fire lieutenant during an alleged car theft Monday morning on the West Side.
Charles Macklin, of the 5300 block of West LeMoyne Street in the North Austin neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 9:33 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Macklin lived about a block from where he was killed, in the 1400 block of North Lockwood Avenue.
The 45-year-old fire lieutenant had left his car running and came out to find the 17-year-old attempting to steal the car, according to a statement from police. He fired his gun toward the teen to “stop the offender from running him over with his vehicle.”
The lieutenant was not working at the time and has a concealed-carry permit, according to police sources. He also has a firearm owner’s identification card, authorities said.”
Morale of the story, don’t take what’s not yours and don’t leave your car running.
