October’s Thirty Four

Posted on November 1, 2013

CarnacOn the first of every month, we like to look back and see how our predictions panned out. Back on October 1st, we said: “Looking ahead to October, once again we’re going to forecast 40 (+/-4) homicides and a lower 145 (+/-10) shot and wounded.”

We were a wee bit off this time around since October tallied 34 homicides and an additional 98 shot and wounded. The month started off strong but some colder temps rolled in by mid-month and it slowed down quite a bit.

The 34 homicides by the numbers:

  • 31 males
  • 3 females
  • 29 (85%) shot
  • 4 (12%) stabbed
  • 31 average age
  • 5 teenagers
  • 15 under age 25
  • 12 shot in the head
  • 12 shot in the torso
  • 22.8% shot-to-kill ratio
  • 3 police involved
  • 19 different neighborhoods
  • 1 triple homicide
  • 2 double homicides

Looking ahead to November, we’re going to forecast 33 (+/-3) homicides and a quieter 85 (+/-10) shot and wounded.
