November Wrap-up

Posted on November 30, 2017

Carnac the Magnificent A bit of reversion to the mean happened this November with the end totals way down from last year’s epic shitshow but falling right in line with past years. Watch the betters boast about a 50% decline in stupidity while ignoring just how average this month ended up being.

November 2017: 39 killed, 165 wounded
November 2016: 83 killed, 323 wounded
November 2015: 37 killed, 165 wounded
November 2014: 39 killed, 125 wounded
November 2013: 28 killed, 111 wounded

A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:

  • 36 shot & killed
  • 1 fatal police shootings
  • 5 homicide-linked arrests
  • Averaged 6.7 people shot per day
  • 7 days were homicide-free
  • 0 death investigations (hmm)
  • 36 in serious or critical condition
  • 37 males killed vs 2 females
  • 42 teenagers shot, 5 killed
  • 12 grazed
  • 3 selfies
  • 10 #ShotInTheAss

At this point, no one cares about December (or this stuff in general) and what few people are paying attention, are eyeing the year end tally. 700 is an outlier case now as a well above average 68 is needed. The more likely scenario is an additional 40 homicides will help end 2017 with 672. Add in a few late expirations, reclassified death investigations and found bodies and we’re easily into late 1990s territory. However, since we’re off 15-20% from last year, the CrimeIsDown parade kicks of at noon on Jan 1 at the corner of Hermitage and Berteau.
