May Wrap-up
Posted on June 1, 2017
No amount of overtime can match the power of Mother Nature and nothing stops the stupid better than 40° temps matched with the wettest spring ever. No matter, “strategies” are working and we haven’t witnessed a May this slow since two Mays ago.
May 2017: 57 killed, 270 wounded
May 2016: 69 killed, 339 wounded
May 2015: 50 killed, 281 wounded
May 2014: 47 killed, 230 wounded
A breakdown of the month’s idiocy shows:
- 53 shot & killed
- 1 fatal PO shooting to blame
- Averaged 10.4 people shot per day
- 5 days were homicide-free.
- 3 death investigations
- 51 in serious or critical condition
- 50 males killed vs 7 females
- 58 teenagers shot, 19 killed
- 12 grazed
- 3 selfies
- 23 #ShotInTheAss
Our May prediction wasn’t too far off especially given our thought that the cooler and wetter forecast would tamp things down. Now that the weather seems to becoming more in line with what everyone expects this time of year, we’re looking for 70 homicides plus another 350 shot and wounded vs last June’s 76 homicides and 373 wounded.
