Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen

Posted on September 3, 2014

So long, farewell, au wiedersehenIt’s that time of year when we lovingly look back on the summer that was. From the start of the Memorial Day weekend to the end of the Labor Day weekend we tallied 149 151 homicides and an additional 851 850 persons shot and wounded. In keeping with our “More Lead/Less Dead” theme, homicides were down 16% 14.6% from last summer (yay!) but total persons shot was up 14% (boo!).

Summer 2014 by the numbers:

  • 149 150 151 dead
  • 850 wounded
  • 886 males
  • 115 females
  • 25.6 average age
  • 32 teenagers killed
  • 91.2% of homicides were gunshots
  • Avg 1 shooting every 2hrs, 52min
  • Avg 1 homicide every 16hrs, 25min
  • 17 police involved shootings
  • Team Englewood lead w/ 23 killed

Just as Cubs fans have been saying for the last millennium, “wait ’til next year”.

Keep it short and to the point. Name calling and similar stupidity will be deleted. If you insist on writing several paragraphs, start your own blog.

Wow!! Add up the numbers and it is an even 1000. This could be a great marketing tool for Chicago. The City should have a lottery next summer to guess the exact number.

On a more serious note I believe you should make the current shootings/stabbings etc. more competitive. How about a baseball analogy. A kill is a homerun and given a weight of 4 and a mere shooting a single or one point. If you do this it will change the rankings somewhat, but the top four “hoods” will remain the same. Making it a contest will give the people something to shoot for. Opps, I mean strive for and enhance Chicago values. With the baseball scoring Little Village moves from 15th to 10th place, making them real contenders. You could call it the Chicago Honors Interpersonal Crime and Gun Offenders (CHICAGO) League.

We actually toyed around with that idea long ago. The plan was to assign different weights to different types of crimes much like you suggested. The issue was it was a bit too involved, a pain in the ass to keep up and in the end it’s completely arbitrary.

      Nice acronym though.

Amazing to think 1,000 “humans” were shot in 3 months and the only response is more busted government solutions (translated more of our money), the introduction of more illegal aliens and it’s whitey’s fault….All of it very sad.

The only reason deaths are down is the poor shooting and EMS’s incredible work.

I like the idea of guessing the Summer Bodycount. Maybe there could be a prize for closest to final numbers. You know win a free Shot in the Ass package ior some such must register by memorial day, ect

Which hospitals treat and save the most victims? This is probably off the reservation but Chiraq is really doing a wonderful job preparing our medical personal for the upcoming race riots….ISIL in America…WWIII. ..whichever comes first….also how many honor students have achieved graduate level lead degrees?

To think ISIS/ISIL are cutting off heads… one at a time. Hah! JV Squad is right. Nobody stands toe-to-toe with Chicago varsity bangers getting 1000 tags. Honor students get an A+ for summer session ’14.

Sounds to me like the Honor Students need to spend a little more time at the range,
with a little practice they could bring that average up.

    • Chiraq or Afcago? September 5, 2014 at 4:24 am

Dude, you have to realize, there’s the Englewood Range, the Garfield Range, the…

When I first came to Afcago I asked an off-duty cop where I could shoot my AR besides South Chicago. Ooops, he had a mouthful of coffee at the time.

Glad to see Englewood with a big second half push to keep their title. Early in the season Austin was “killing” (no pun intended)…
